An Interview with Erik Reynolds II
Get to know Saint Joe's star guard after a sensational sophomore season

In this interview from March 30th, 2023, Nathan Mook of the A10 vault sits down to chat with Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball star Erik Reynolds II following what was a brilliant 2022-23 season for the Hawks’ sophomore guard.
Coming out of The Bullis School in his hometown of Potomac, Maryland, Reynolds II chose to attend Saint Joseph’s over the likes of Atlantic 10 Conference foes such as George Mason and La Salle, amongst other programs who had offered the three-star recruit. Standing at 6’2’ and weighing175 pounds, he has been a key cog in re-energizing a Saint Joe’s program which is looking to regain national prominence under head coach Billy Lange.
For his career, Reynolds II has appeared in 63 games- starting all but one- while averaging 16 points per contest on 42.5% shooting from the floor. It’s only taken Reynolds two seasons to eclipse the elusive 1,000-point club, a truly impressive feat; as an underclassman alone, he’s registered a grand total of 1,010 points for his career. Additionally, he was named to the 2021-22 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, as well as being named to the All-Conference second team this past year.
It goes without saying that Reynolds can score from anywhere on the floor. He proved such this year when he shot 49.1% (106/216) from two-point range and 37.9% (99/261) from beyond the arc. He also had a great deal of success at the foul line, netting 139 of his 157 free throw attempts, an outstanding 88.5% free throw conversion rate which marks the 34th-best percentage in all the NCAA.
There’s no denying that Reynold’s possesses remarkable offensive prowess, as he recorded thirteen 20+ point games in 2022-23, and another 5 contests in which he scored 30 or more. Perhaps his best collegiate game thus far came against George Washington in the A10 tournament on 3/8/2023, when Reynolds II recorded 34 points on 10 of 22 shooting while going a perfect 12/12 from the free throw line in an 87-76 win.
Ultimately the Hawks have relied on Reynolds II to be on the floor ever since he set foot on campus. He’s averaged 33.7 minutes per game over the course of his career, a number which rose 35.1 minutes a night this year. He also had a remarkably high shot volume in 2022-23, attempting 477 of the team’s 1,920 total field goal tries, or approximately 24.8% of the Saint Joseph’s shot attempts.
