Around the A10: MTE Recap
News, Notes and Highlights from Thursday Through Sunday for A10 Teams Participating in Multi-Team Events
Happy Monday, everyone, and welcome back to Around the A10!
As college basketball enters the multi-team event stage, the action across the A10 is heating up. From thrilling matchups to standout performances, this weekend was packed with drama.
Without further ado, let’s dive right into the scores and key notes for each team in action from Thursday to Sunday:
La Salle Finishes Seventh in Boardwalk Battle
MTE Record: 1-2 (L 11/21 vs. UC- San Diego (72-67); L 11/22 vs. UIC (96-83); W 11/23 vs. Stetson (92-77))
2024-25 Overall Record: 5-2
The Explorers traveled to the Ocean Center (Daytona Beach, Florida) this weekend to participate in the Boardwalk Battle, finishing seventh in an eight-team field. La Salle entered the event with an unblemished 4-0 mark on the year before dropping a pair of games in succession to UC-San Diego (the eventual tournament champions) on Thursday afternoon, and then to UIC on Friday evening. They earned a come-from-behind win over Stetson (1-6) on Saturday in an effort aided by five scorers in double figures, led by a season-high 27 points from Corey McKeithan (8/15 FG, 5/8 3PT)- who averaged 17.3 PPG in the tournament.
Next Up: La Salle hosts Temple (4-2) in a Big Five battle at 4 PM ET on Saturday, November 30th, at the John Glaser Arena (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania).
VCU Salvages Their Final Matchup at the Charleston Classic
MTE Record: 1-2 (L 11/21 vs. Seton Hall (69-66; OT); L 11/22 vs. Nevada (64-61); W 11/24 vs. Miami (77-70))
2024-25 Overall Record: 5-2
The Rams- preseason favorites to win the Atlantic 10 Conference- began MTE play with a pair of equally frustrating three-point losses- the first being to Seton Hall (4-3) on Thursday in an exciting overtime affair; the second coming a day later after blowing a 15-point second-half lead to Nevada (6-1). Their wire-to-wire win Sunday over a talented Miami team (losers of three straight after starting the year 3-0) seems promising, but the real test of the Rams' strength will be whether or not they can fight back when momentum is with their opponents. The undoubted good news in all of this? Senior guard Zeb Jackson returned from injury after missing the club's first four games; he'll be a key piece in helping VCU stay the course.
Next Up: It's a buy game at the Stuart C. Seigel Center (Richmond, Virginia) for VCU, who will host Elizabeth City State (Elizabeth City, North Carolina) on Friday night (7 PM ET).
Massachusetts Swept in Hall of Fame Tipoff
MTE Record: 0-2 (L 11/23 vs. Temple (87-80); L 11/24 vs. Florida State (92-59))
2024-25 Overall Record: 1-5
