Jaylen Harrell: A New Piece for Providence
A 4-star forward in the class of will be coming to Friartown
Jaylen Harrell, a 6'6", 210-pound small forward from Boston, Massachusetts, pledged his commitment to Providence College last Monday, choosing the Friars from a six-team final group that included Rutgers, Virginia Tech, Kansas, Xavier, and Alabama.
A consensus four-star recruit via the four high school prospect ranking sites held in the highest regard (ESPN, 247Sports, On3, and Rivals.com), Harrell is a high-level shotmaker from all three levels of the floor (inside the paint, mid-range, and beyond the three-point line), as well as a willing defender.
"I ultimately chose Providence because of the relationship I have with the coaching staff," Harrell told On3's Joe Tipton moments after publicizing his decision. "I believe in the goal of winning at a high level there, and I believe in (PC Head Coach Kim English)'s vision of what we're going to do in the next coming years."
The forward now joins five-star prospect Jamier Jones in the Friars 2025 recruiting class, which currently ranks one of the best nationally. Another 2025 five-star recruit, Oswin Ernhunmwnunse, recently announced he would be reclassifying to arrive on campus this fall, joining Providence's upcoming contingent.
A small private Christian school with no football program, basketball is king for Providence College, and with a raucous fanbase coupled with incredible donor support, the school is square in the mix for an NCAA Tournament spot year in and year out, let alone a Big East title.
Now, increasingly gaining momentum with English at the helm, the ceiling has been raised to new heights, with the Friars’ latest commitment in Harrell serving as a testament to such. While he may not be on campus this fall, his arrival in Providence will be soon enough, as he looks to join a fast-rising team amongst NCAA ranks.
