The Vault Files: George Mason F Malik Henry
GMU's veteran forward could make some noise this upcoming season
In this edition of The Vault Files, we sit down with George Mason forward Malik Henry- a shot-blocking big man primed and ready for a monster 2023-24 campaign.
The 6’8”, 195-pound rising senior is a native of Longview, Texas. He attended Longview High School in his hometown and was a three-star recruit in the 2020 class. Henry ultimately chose George Mason over Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Samford, and Oral Roberts, amongst others.
Serving as a backup to program legend Josh Oduro over the past three seasons, Henry holds career averages of 3.1 points and 2.2 rebounds on 61.8% shooting in a mere 9.1 minutes across his 65 games (7 starts). However, with Oduro having departed for Providence in the wake of former GMU head coach Kim English accepting the coaching role in Rhode Island’s capital city, the door is now ajar for Henry to see considerable minutes for the first time in his collegiate career.
If the Patriot's new headman Tony Skinn chooses to deploy Henry in abundance, benefits shall be reaped. The big man projects to be one of the best shot-blockers in the A10, and his low post presence makes for an intriguing offensive dynamic, even in a day and age that has become dominated by a fast pace and plenty of spacing. And, with nobody standing in his way any longer, odds are this will not be the last you shall hear about him.
